CSTP 3:
An area where I want to improve my knowledge of understanding is element 3.6
“Addressing the needs of English learners and student with special needs to provide
equitable access to the content.” Because I teach such a young grade, a handful of
learning disabilities are not diagnosed yet, but it does not mean they are not there. This
year, I do not have any English learners, but previous years I have, and I would like to
learn more about how to make learning accessible for them. This website focuses more
on how to assist and care for students with special needs. They have a ton of resources
like video seminars and articles.
National Association for Child Development
This resource talks about how implementing technology can assist English learners in
the classroom. They mention a reading program called Read Naturally to help students
develop English fluency. After exploring that program, I can see it being beneficial for
older students. For my younger students, we have a lot of games and apps that they
can play to help them learn letters or basic English words. Some reading programs we
have are Kids A-Z and EPIC. These have options for the book to be read to you while
highlighting the words so kids can follow along.

CSTP 4:

I like the resource listed under Element 4.2 in the playlist. It is an Objective Builder Tool
that allows you to set measurable learning objectives for lessons interactively. I think
this could be very useful for me because I want to make sure each lesson has an
intentional and measurable goal. This tool could help me think practically when planning
lessons.

I explored the resource Read, Write, Think under Element 4.3. This tool is so helpful
when starting out or teaching a new concept that maybe you have not done before. It
essentially gives you a lesson plan for the specific skill. It lays everything out for you:
the estimated time of the lesson, the goal, standards, preparation, and resources. I am
excited to explore this further, especially when planning new lessons and next steps on
some Phonics skills.
