Let's read the Aggidatta's Story

Aggidatta was a Head Priest during the reign of King

Mahakosala, father of King Pasenadi. After the death of King
Mahakosala, Aggidatta donated his fortune, and left home to
become a non-Buddhist ascetic. He lived with ten thousand of
his followers in a place near the border between the three
kingdoms of Anga, Magadha and Kuru, not far from a sand
dune, where lived a savage dragon.
Let's read the Aggidatta's Story

To his followers and people in these three kingdoms, Aggidatta

urged, "Worship the forests, mountains, gardens and gardens,
and trees; by doing so, you will be free from all ills in the world.
This world".
One day, the Buddha saw Aggidatta and his followers in
his sight and realized that the time had come for them
to attain arahatship. Then the Buddha sent Thera Maha
Moggallana to meet Aggidatta and his followers and tell
him that he himself would become his follower.

Thera Maha Moggallana went to the place of Aggidatta

and his followers and asked them to give him a place to
stay for the night. At first they refused his request, but
in the end they agreed to let him spend the night in the
dunes, the home of the dragon.
The dragon did not like Thera Maha Moggallana very much,
and then what happened was a power struggle between the
dragon and thera, on both sides, there was a spectacle of
miraculous smoke and flames. After all, the dragon was finally
subdued. He rolled himself around the dune, and raised his
head and spread it like an umbrella over Thera Maha
Moggallana, showing him respect.
Early in the morning, Aggidatta and the other ascetics came to
the dunes to find out if Thera Maha Moggallana was still alive,
they hoped to see him dead. When they learned that the dragon
had been tamed, and without resistance allowed his head to be
like an umbrella over Thera Maha Moggallana's body, they were
greatly shocked. A moment later, the Buddha arrived and Thera
Maha Moggallana stood up from his seat on the sand dune and
paid homage to the Buddha.
Then Thera Maha Moggallana announced to the ascetics, "This
is my Master, the Most Holy Buddha, and I am a lowly disciple
of this great Master!"
Hearing this, the ascetics who were greatly impressed by the
power of Thera Maha Moggallana were fascinated by the power
of the Buddha. Then the Buddha asked Aggidatta what he had
taught his followers and neighbors.

Aggidatta replied that he had taught them to pay homage to

mountains, forests, gardens and parks, and trees, and by doing
so, they would be free from all ills in this world.
The Buddha's answer to Aggidatta was, "Aggidatta, people go to
the mountains, forests, parks and gardens, and trees to take
refuge when they are threatened by danger, but these things
cannot provide refuge. Only those who take refuge in the
Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha will be free from the cycle of
existence (samsara)".
From THE

I take refuge in the Buddha,
the one who shows me the way in this life.
I take refuge in the Dharma,
the way of understanding and love.
I take refuge in the Sangha,
the community that lives in harmony and
awareness.
I take refuge in these three jewels,
in perfect oneness of body, speech, and mind.
Just go back to the island within yourself.
Just go back to the island within.
All it takes is one breath in mindfulness.
