11 tips for creating a company name

1. First of all, keep in mind a simple fact – the name you chose in 99% of cases will
be used as a domain name (or part of it) for the official site.
2. Uniqueness and ease of memorization. Every business owner wants to get a
name for their company that would set them apart from the crowd, be visible and
memorable. By the way, if the name is really unique, you need to make sure that it is
pronounced equally well in Ukrainian, Russian and English. And also has no
problems in writing.
3. Looking to the future. Maybe now the name, which contains the name of your
city, and it seems very attractive. But think what will happen if in the future you
reach the level of the whole country and even the international market?
4. Simplicity and ease of pronunciation. Avoid abbreviations that only you can
understand and that mean nothing to most people. Success is when the name you
come up with can be easily pronounced by your grandmother and memorized by a
first grader.
5. Give a hint. To do this, simply add to the title any word that is associated in the
target audience with the niche in which you work. Or at least part of the phrase. For
example, "auto", "techno", "comfort", etc.
6. Don't limit yourself. No one can predict how your business will develop in the
future. So avoid names that could potentially limit your business by not allowing you
to expand your product range. If you only sell sofas now, it is not a fact that in the
future your store will not grow into a full-fledged furniture supermarket. First of all,
this means that you should not add a geographical location or specific product
categories to the company name.
7. Positive associations. Even if you come up with the idea of beautiful nonsense, it
is still an important point – it should sound beautiful. And all the more relevant when
it comes to meaningful names. It is unlikely that anyone will want to buy chicken kits
at a kiosk with a sign "Killed broiler."
8. Names and surnames are best left in the passport. Yes, Henry Ford named the
car plant after him, and many decades after his death, the company did not mind.
Examples include McDonald's, Procter & Gamble, Gilette and others. But sometimes
things can get sad if the owner of a company named after himself suddenly seriously
damages his reputation.
9. Combine words. This is probably the most interesting way to choose a name for
a company that allows you to generate an almost infinite number of results. Try to
compose words that clearly describe the niche in which you work, with those with
whom it is usually associated. Another option is to use keyword translations into
other languages and the same combinations.
10. Another opinion is not always good. Most often, a decision based on consensus
and a wide range of opinions leads to the choice of not the best, but the most neutral
and "safe" name. Therefore, it is better to involve a small number of people in the
choice of name, who, in your opinion, are well versed in your business and have a
well-developed imagination.
11. Conciseness and beautiful sound. The title should not contain too much
information. It is desirable that the name consisted of one, maximum two words. And
it will be easier to print on a business card. As for the beautiful sound – everything is
clear. Given how long you have been brainstorming, the end result should appeal to
you on all sides – in writing, meaning and pronunciation.
