To restore full functionality of your refilled cartridges, it's best to replace the usage chips as

well. You should be able to find them and their installation instructions on eBay or through
the same supplier that sold you the bulk toner. I'd recommend this method as the chips are
fairly inexpensive.

If you're stuck and just want to get the thing going, you can run the hp 4600 without usage
monitoring chips but you'll need to "disable cartridge check" in the diagnostics menu on the
control pannel. Once this is done, the printer will then bypass the toner level checks.

Press the green “Select” key (the one with a “check mark” symbol on it) to activate the
menus. Then use the up and/or down arrow keys to scroll to the Diagnostics Menu.

Enter this menu with the “Select” key, then scroll to “Disable Cartridge Check” and select it.

Now the printer will not check the cartridges at all, and you can run the printer with one or
more cartridges missing or swapped (or even with none of the cartridges installed), and it will
not display an error.

NOTE: You need to select “Disable Cartridge Check” before removing or swapping any
cartridges. Also, the cartridge check is only disabled as long as you remain in Diagnostic
Mode (to exit Diagnostic Mode, press “Cancel Job” and then select “Exit,” or just cycle the
power). You can enter other menus, print test pages, etc., while still in Diagnostic Mode.

You won't receive any alerts when toner starts running low, so you'll have to keep an eye on
the printed output!

Be aware that while in Diagnostic mode, you may lose some functionality or special features
that might be available through the software driver interface.
