Autism Prevalence and Incidence 2

The prevalence of autism stands at one diagnosis per 160 children (Poovathinal et al., 2018). The

average age of diagnosis among children is 4 although in some cases children as young as two

years have been diagnosed with autism. Accessible records imply that the prevalence of autism is

59 per 10,000 children in Saudi Arabia (Poovathinal et al., 2018). The lower incidence of autism

in Saudi Arabia may be attributed to the scarcity of experts to diagnose it accurately and the lack

of information by the parents to identify symptoms and seek a diagnostic explanation.
