Turf field popularity explodes

The Marlton Sun
Several years ago when the
township council announced
plans for an athletic turf field in
Evesham, residents balked at the
idea. Turf fields were too expen-
sive, too dangerous, and too un-
healthy.
Now they’re simply in too high
of a demand.
In an effort to make the well-
used field more accessible to
groups, the township council an-
nounced a new plan that will
allow groups to rent the entire
field or a portion of the turf field
for a nominal fee.
In the past, groups could only
rent out the entire field, Town-
ship Manager Tom Czerniecki
said, which limited the number of
teams who had access to the play-
ing field.
Now, groups have the option of
renting out the entire field, half

residents.

field costs $35, and a quarter of
the field costs $25 an hour.
All of the money collected from
rental fees are funneled right
back into the Marlton recreation
program, Czerniecki said.
“Those funds actually go back
into the recreation program.
They’ll be used to improve other
facilities. It’s a great business
model,” he said.
