SEMI FINAL ACTIVITY #1 - CHOOSE AN ANIMAL From your chosen representative
animal, research the life cycle, and provide a brief written description of each stage. Use
the following questions as a guide.
ANIMAL: Lissachatina fulica – African Land Snail
1. How many stages comprise this animal's life cycle?
There are four stages in the life cycle of a land snail.

2. What are the stages of each part of the life cycle called?
Each part of the land snail life cycle is called as, the egg, the young snail, the
adolescent snail, and the adult snail.

3. What characterizes each stage of the animal's life cycle, i.e., physical changes,
habitat changes, mating patterns, etc.?
The egg stage is occurring from late autumn to early spring. In this stage, after
the snail has fertilized, the snail digs holes in the soil and lays her eggs there.
The young snail stage occurs two weeks after the eggs are laid in the soil, it is
when the hatchling emerges from the eggs. In this stage, the young snail gets to
eat its eggshell and begins to develop all as well throughout winter and spring
season. During the adolescent snail stage, the snail undergoes an aestivation
period, the snail rests above ground and climbs fences, roads, and vegetation to
avoid losing as little water as possible. In this stage, the snail does not mate or
breed. Last stage is the adult snail, it is where the snail reach sexual maturity as
the autumn starts. The cool and moist condition of whether trigger the sexual
snail activity, also the process of egg-laying begins shortly after mating as the
entire life cycle repeat again from the start.

4. How long does each stage of the animal's life cycle approximately last?
Based on my research, each stage of a land snail’s life cycle lasts up to 2-3
weeks.

5. What is the life span of the animal's life cycle?

The normal lifespan of a land snail is known to 2-3years. In some cases, larger
snails in the wild could live up to 10-25 years longer than the ordinary land snail
we see in our garden.
