ME 347 – HW #4

Introduction to CAD – Prof. Hamed Hatami-Marbini

Instructions
1. Download all of STEP files in a folder. Then import them into the assembly by changing the file
type to STEP.
Import the STEP files one by one; you cannot import multiple files at once.

2. Before uploading your work to Blackboard,

o Make sure all your parts are in the same folder.
o Use Pack and Go to submit parts, the assembly, and drawing files to Blackboard.
 The assembly that cannot be opened receives zero; this often happens because
students forget to include all of the parts that make up an assembly.
o Go to File → Pack and Go
o Name the file as: HW4_netid (use netid not UIN). For example, if your email is
alex12@uic.edu. You would name the part as HW4_alex12.sldprt.

Grading Rubric
Your assignment will be graded using the following rubric
Criteria Points
Assembly is fully formed and work as the provided movies 10
There are some incorrect mates and it does not work as shown in the animation 7
There are missing parts in assembly 4
No submission OR files cannot be opened 0
Problem Statement

In this homework, you are supposed to assemble a planetary gearbox. It has different parts including:
 Planet gears
 Sun gear
 Ring gear
 Shaft

The above parts are given in STEP format. You need to assemble the above items using appropriate mates.
There is an animation (available on the blackboard) showing how the mechanism should be assembled.
Note that
 the planet gears, sun gear or shaft should NOT move axially
 Screw mate is NOT required
 There is no color preference
 Rotation of the sun gear and planer gears should be synchronized as shown in the animation. To
this end, you need to use Mechanical mates, e.g. Gear Mate.
