patient : yes, i’ve got terrible back pain. it’s so sore.
nurse : i see. can you tell me how you hurt your back?
patient : i fell from the ladder while painting
nurse : that’s a shame. can you tell me where the pain is?
patient : it’s mostly in my lower back
nurse : and what’s the pain like?
patient : it’s really awful
nurse : what type of pain is it? is it a sharp pain or a dull ache?
patient : it’s a sharp pain
nurse : alright. how would you scale your pain between 0 to 10. zero is no pain and ten is the
worst pain you’ve ever had.
patient : it’s on 8
nurse : i see. well, the doctor will examine you first by having an x-ray. i’ll get you some painkillers
and some anti-inflammatories as well.
patient : what anti-inflammatories used for?
nurse : it’s used to reduce the inflammation in the tissues around the painful area. it helps to
ease the discomfort.
patient : alright, i’ll take that.
nurse : you’ll have it with the painkillers. and you also have to get exercised with the
physiotherapist so your back heal faster.
patient : okay.
nurse : then have a rest first. i’ll get your medicines.
