Ideas for Improvement

Develop a list of ideas for improving your company’s safety effort.

Make safety a top priority: Safety at workplace should be placed

above everything else. Putting safety first can help reduce costs
and improve productivity on the workplace.

Training workers properly: Properly training your workers is the

easiest way to help improve your company’s safety culture.

Get Workers Involved and Invested: Put together a safety

committee that includes employees from all levels of your
business. They should be involved in reviewing and updating your
company’s safety program, crafting workplace-specific safety
plans during the preconstruction phase of each project and
helping identify potential hazards and safety concerns.

Hold Everyone Accountable: Everyone who steps foot on the

jobsite is responsible for safety, not just your safety managers
and those in charge. Workers should know that unsafe practices
put not only themselves in danger, but those around them. Make
sure safety rules are clearly defined and explained to everyone on
the site and that the consequences for failing to follow the rules
will be strictly enforced.

Reward the good, Correct the bad: Use incentives to reward

workers for adhering to safe working practices, attending safety
meetings, wearing personal protective equipment, reporting near
misses, making suggestions to improve safety and reporting
unsafe conditions or hazards.

Conduct daily site inspections and Safety meetings:

Workplace should be inspected before and after each workday to
address any safety concerns such as tools left lying around or
damaged equipment.

“Selling” Strategies
Identify a strategy for selling change internally and
getting more support for the safety effort.

Paint a Clear and Compelling Picture

Smart sellers know how to paint a clear and compelling picture of
what it would look like when the workers problem is solved. They
understand that if they create a vision for the workers of the
desired future, the workers is much more likely to buy into the
solution

Build the Relationship

Just as trust is the basis for winning long term deal, it is also the
foundation of successful change. Every interaction should
emphasize the message and its importance. Your workers need
to believe that you are being straightforward and honest in your
dealings with them, that you are actually capable of pulling this
change plan off, that you have the backing of those that matter,
and that you are in it for the long haul.

Follow Through
The best solution seller don’t walk away once the deal is sealed.
Their focus is on building workers loyalty, satisfaction and
success.  They do this by staying connected and monitoring the
solution’s effectiveness. So, too, must change leaders continue to
track the results of the change initiative and stay in touch with
their employees to make sure all is going as planned.  If not, they
should be prepared to explore what is going wrong and figure out
what needs to be adjusted.
