Content Based
- Close and constrained by agenda: it
imposes a date, time, lesson number
and a content to consume
It does not take into consideration the
heterogeneity of the class and of the
diagnostic and formative assessment
-It is mainly content based
- It only prepares learners for exams
and marks
- It privileges the transmissive method
and polycopies to end up with the
syllabus.
- Content is an end in itself
- The teacher is constrained to strictly
apply the programme
- It is teacher-centered
- It is about dispatching content on a
time schedule decided beforehand
Competency Based
- Can be flexible and adaptable to
learners’ needs and the
teaching/learning situation.
- Whenever needed, it allows to modal
content and time to correspond to
learners needs in terms of remedying
-Respecting the official syllabus, it is based
on competences and the learners’ rhythm of
assimilation
- It prepares learners to integration and
remedial activities.
- It privileges learners’ ability to
synthesize, analyze and evaluate.
- Content is a resource to mobilize.
- Diagnostic assessment is a starting
point and the exit profile is an
objective to achieve.
- The teacher is free to take
pedagogical initiatives and regulate to
respond to learners needs
- It is learner-centered.
- It requires quality, teaching rhythm
and regulation.
