1.) What is significant about the contents of the destination address field?
answer : Semua host di dalam LAN akan menerima broadcast frame. Host dengan IP
Address 192.168.1.1 (default gateway) akan mengirimkan unicast blasan ke sumber (PC
host). Balasan ini berisi MAC address dari NIC default gateway.
2.) Why does the PC send out a broadcast ARP prior to sending the first ping request?
answer : Karena MAC address tujuan belum ditentukan, yang bisa membuat frame header
untuk ping request tersebut.
3.) What is the MAC address of the source in the first frame?
answer : Bervariasi, dalam kasus ini f0:1f:af:50:fd:c8.
4.) What is the Vendor ID (OUI) of the Source NIC in the ARP reply?
answer : Bervariasi, dalam kasus ini “Netgear”.
5.) What portion of the MAC address is the OUI?
answer : 3 oktet pertama dalam MAC address.

answer : Dapat bervariasi, dalam kasus ini 99:c5:72.

answer : MAC address dari PC dan MAC address dari default gateway
10.) What are the source and destination IP addresses contained in the data field of the
frame?
answer : IP address dari PC dan address dari server “www.cisco.com”
 11.) Compare these addresses to the addresses you received in Step 6. The only address
that changed is the destination IP address. Why has the destination IP address
changed, while the destination MAC address remained the same?
answer : Frame layer 2 tidak pernah meninggalkan LAN. Saat ping dijalankan ke remote
host, sumbernya akan memakai MAC address default gateway untuk destinasi frame.
Default gateway menerima paket, menanggalkan informasi frame layer 2 dari paket
kemudian membuat frame header baru bersamaan dengan MAC address. Proses ini
berlanjut dari router ke router hingga paket mencapai IP address tujuannya.

REFLECTION QUESTION
Wireshark does not display the preamble field of a frame header. What does the preamble
contain?
answer : preamble mengandung tujuh oktet dari sekuens 1010, dan satu oktet yang
menandakan awal dari frame, 10101011
