2 – PICTURE ANALYSIS (4 pts)

Describe and comment on the cartoon with what you know about the immigration
debate in the UK.

This picture describes two men, one of them is dress up like a boss and the other one is dress
up like an employee. On the wall a graffiti about immigrants and below a response. Here, we
have a contrast relating the different point of view on immigration in United Kingdom.

1. Define multiculturalism (as a concept and as a philosophy). (4 pts)

Multiculturalism is a concept based on two concepts, one politic which is the equality at work
for example for everybody coming from anywhere and philosophic like respecting the plurality
of religion or the freedom to live your life according to your culture.

2. What intensified the flow of migrations in the second half of the 20 th century? (2 pts)

The flow of migrations is multiple in United Kingdom but in the 20th century, the country
needed workers to rebuild the country.

3. What is the role of the House of Commons? (1 pt)

In Westminster, there is two chambers. The house of lord and the house of commons, this one
discuss, debate, argue.

4. What do you know about the House of Lords reform that happened that last 30 years?
(1 pt)
 One of the most important reform is to reduce the right of heirs to get a chair and to
vote. Plus, most of the Mps must be representative of the population.

5. What do you know about the riots that happened in the 1980s in Great Britain? (2 pts

In 1980 riots burst between ethnic people and policemen. Protestants were fighting against
inequality and racism.
