When I reflect on my Professional Disposition I notice a few different attributes that I

bring to my profession of teaching that I would not have normally thought of. For example, I

demonstrate qualities of humor, empathy, and warmth. This is an attribute that I do not think of

during a regular day because it is something that I bring to my everyday life and is a part of how

I treat people on a daily basis. When I treat people with respect everyday it translates to my

classroom and can make students feel important in the classroom. One thing that I am cautious

about but need to be better with is my patience. With that being said, I am very patient with my

students when we are working through assignments and readings. The only time I get impatient

with the students is when we are working on assignments and they continually put in zero effort.

I know that they have the ability to work and understand the material but they choose to not do

their work in a timely manner because they know their IEPs allow them extra time. Another

aspect of the Personal Disposition that I agree with but not strongly is, “I view teaching as a

collaborative effort among educators”. While I agree that all the classroom material and what is

taught should be consistent, I also believe that while working with special education students I

should have the ability to modify and shorten assignments apart from general education

classrooms are doing in order for my students to see success and not be over whelmed by the

material. This is also a way that I am able to connect with my students better because I am able

to accommodate their learning styles and needs in the classroom. I believe that the question I

most identify with in my school is, “I believe it is important to learn about students and

their communities ”. I teach in an area that the population is of a different cultural

background than my own. I love that it is this way. It gives me an opportunity to learn

about their Hispanic culture and incorporate things that are important to them in their

lives to our lesson in order to better connect them with the material and to give them a

personal connection. “ I understand that teachers’ expectations affect student learning ”

is a great reminder that we are educators that will pour into these students. In my own

life, the classes and the teachers that I performed best for were the ones that I knew had

my back and sup ported me through class. With this being said, they held me

accountable and had high expectations for me to reach. In my teaching, I will make

sure that I hold my students accountable for their work and that I have expectations for

them that are high but are more than capable of reaching. Once the student reaches that

expectation, they will feel as if they have accomplished something great because even

the smallest of accomplishments can boost a student’s self-esteem .
