THE ROOM

PRESENTADO POR: PAULA ALEJANDRA SARMIENTO T.

1. Full synopsis

For Jack, a five-year-old boy, the room is the whole world, the place where he was born,
where he eats, plays and learns with his mother. At night, Mom puts him to sleep in the
closet, just in case Old Nick comes along. The room is Jack's home, while for his mother it
is the cubicle where she has been locked up for seven years, kidnapped since she was
nineteen. With great tenacity and ingenuity, the young woman has created a life for her son
in that small space, and her love for him is the only thing that allows her to bear the
unbearable. However, Jack's curiosity is growing, along with the despair of his mother, who
knows that the room will not be able to contain both for much longer.

3. conclusions and reflexion

The Room is a magnificent film full of painful contrasts and a very hard psychological
portrait that was made with great direction by Lenny Abrahamson. The story of Jack, a boy
whose world is the only room he knows and which was where he was born, allows us to
know the reality of him and puts us in a position that hurts before the innocence of this little
boy. The whole story is free of clichés and, on the contrary, is presented with great
intelligence.
