● Title: Development of VSC and LCC Hybrid HVDC for Power System Stability
Enhancement

The objectives of the project are to provide Final Year students in Electrical
Engineering with the opportunities to
1. Consolidate basic knowledge about HVDC transmission system
2. Understand the operational characteristics of different types of HVDC
transmission and their role in power system operation
3. Develop a hybrid HVDC dynamic model used in power system stability
analysis
4. Learn MATLAB programming and RTDS techniques

The project aims to develop a hybrid LCC and VSC HVDC system in MATLAB and
RT-LAB environment for power system stability enhancement. On the completion of
the project, students should be able to

1. Describe the functions of major components of HVDC transmission system

2. Explain the advantages of the hybrid LCC and VSC HVDC transmission in the
system operation
3. Demonstrate the ability of modelling the hybrid HVDC system in both MATLAB and
RT-LAB
4. Demonstrate the ability of using established hybrid HVDC to improve power
system stability

Model :

1) LCC HVDC (Classic)

Outcome: 1) Current and voltage waveforms of a six-pulse thyristor
converter in both inverter and rectifier sides.
2) AC grid active and reactive power for LCC-HVDC (with low pass
filter) for both inverter and rectifier sides.

Model 2: VSC HVDC power system

I have a file of the mode

Outcome: 1) Current and voltage waveforms of a six-pulse thyristor
converter in both inverter and rectifier sides.

2) AC grid active and reactive power for LCC-HVDC (with low pass filter) for
both inverter and rectifier sides.

Model 3: LCC-VSC power system in both Matlab and RT-lab

Parameter: using the above data

Outcome: 1) Current and voltage waveforms of a six-pulse thyristor
converter in both inverter and rectifier sides.

2) AC grid active and reactive power for LCC-HVDC (with low pass filter) for
both inverter and rectifier sides.

3) Demonstrate the ability of modelling the hybrid HVDC system in both

MATLAB and RT-LAB

4) Demonstrate the ability of using established hybrid HVDC to improve

power system stability
