Define the following terms: DEONTOLOGICAL ETHICS and TELEOLOGICAL

ETHICS.

DEONTOLOGICAL ETHICS: is the normative ethical theory that the morality of an action
should be based on whether that action itself is right or wrong under a series of rules,
rather than based on the consequences of the action. It is sometimes described as duty,
obligation, or rule-based ethics.

TELEOLOGICAL ETHICS is the theory of morality that derives duty or moral obligation from
What is good or desirable as an end to be achieved.

2. Classify the following whether they are deontological or teleological and why:
SUBJECTIVISM, CULTURAL RELATIVISM, OBJECTIVISM, and DIVINE COMMAND
THEORY.

Both Subjectivism and Cultural relativism are same which is It means that what is morally
good and bad depends on what a particular culture or society says it is and asserts that all
values are relative to the individual, meaning, judging what is valuable or important depends
on the Individual. So they both belong to Teleological Ethics.

Divine command theory is perfectly related to objectivism. Objectivist hold that moral laws
are universally binding for all individuals, societies, and cultures. Moral laws are eternally true,
independent of one’s standards. Values, therefore, are absolute, regardless of what we think
or feel. So they both belongs to Deontological ethics.
