The unemployment rate in Malaysia edged lower to 4.6 percent in August 2021 from 4.7
percent in the same month a year earlier, as the economy recovered gradually from the
coronavirus disruptions. The number of unemployed rose 1 percent from a year earlier to
748.8 thousand, while employment increased 1.5 percent to 15.38 million. Meantime, the
labor force gained 1.4 percent to 16.13 million. In July 2021, the jobless rate was at 4.8
percent.
