10 Nortel Proprietary Nortel CS1000 R6.0 Channel Partner SE Workshop
Co-Resident Call Server/Signaling Server
IP Considerations for Upgrades

• Consolidating Call Server and Signaling Server on two separate

servers into one server.
• IP addresses (2 options):
• Use the ELAN IP of the CS from the original system as the ELAN IP
of the Co-Res Call and Signaling Server (Preferred Option)
• IP Telephony node information must be updated to use the new ELAN IP
• Node information is updated by removing the Signaling Server and re-
entering the SS from the EM IP Telephony node page
• Use the ELAN IP of the SS from the original system as the ELAN IP
of the Co-Res Call and Signaling Server
• The Call Server IP field in all MGCs in the CS1000 system must be re-
configured to use the new ELAN IP.
• IP subnets - Default route is on TLAN
• Components (IPMGs or GR PCS/SCS/SMG) in different subnets
than the Co-Res Call and Signaling Server
• Routes must be added on the Co-Res Call and Signaling Server to
access the different subnets
• Routes are configured using Linux Base Manager
11 Nortel Proprietary Nortel CS1000 R6.0 Channel Partner SE Workshop

b) Red Hat Linux
c) Wind River VxWorks
• Customer has a site with 1032 IP sets on a single
CS1000E. What is the base operating system of the
• CP-PM Call Processor?
Wind River VxWorks
• CP-PM Signaling Server?
Red Hat Linux

Example 4: Campus Redundancy with Dual-Homed HSP

• Dual-Homing feature of MGC used to maintain:
• ELAN connection of CP-PM CS
• HSP connection of CP-PM CS
• No DSP DBs (no TLAN) supported in this configuration, so no TDM support
(Conference, TDS, DTR) in MG1000E providing dual homed HSP

Large System Memory Requirements &
Loops/TN Usage

• Same CS DRAM memory requirements Large system:

• CP-IV – 512 MB, CP-PM – 1 GB
• Same usage & limits on loops and TN space on large systems:
• 256 loops (64 SuperLoops) per system (CS 1000M MG, CS 1000E)
• 1 SuperLoop occupies 4 loops (maximum 64 SuperLoops to a large
system)
• Not all large configurations fit in existing TN space for the CS 1000E similar
to existing limitation with the CS 1000M (MG) (run out of loops)
• Total ISM limit of CS is 32,760 TNs.

Note:
Although only one License is used for SIP Lines, each SIP line
consumes two TNs, a TN for SIPL virtual trunk and a TN for SIPL
UEXT. Therefore SIPL will consume TN space twice as fast as
UNIStim IP sets

1. Requires using Signaling Servers for TPS for IP sets.

2. IP/TDM capacities limited by shelf space
3. IP/TDM capacities limited by TN space.
4. EC and NTPs are used to calculate practical values per configuration. Beyond these limits need to be engineered on a case by case
basis.

* BHCC numbers are preliminary to be re-confirmed on GA load.
