NEEDS THAT WERE ADDRESSED AND THEIR IMPACTS

1. The Gasoline-powered Automobile (Carl Benz)

The need that was addressed by this invention was the need of people to get to far place
easier and convenient. The gasoline-powered automobile gave people more personal freedom
and access to jobs and services. It led to development of better roads and transportation.
Industries and new jobs developed to supply the demand for automobile parts and fuel. These
included petroleum and gasoline, rubber, and then plastics.

2. The Wheel
The need that was addressed by this invention is the need to have an easier transportation.
Since, wheels are part of the vehicles we are using today that make our life easier. As
civilizations advanced the wheel also advanced, helping with trading items and goods. This
allowed societies to progress. The wheel has definitely changed our lives and has made our
world a better place to live.

3. The Airplane (Wright brothers)

The need that was addressed by this invention is the need of people to places where land
vehicles cannot travel to especially overseas places. Aviation supports 65.5 million jobs
worldwide and enables $2.7 trillion in global GDP. It allows people to have adventures in new
countries, to relax on tropical beaches, to build business relationships and to visit friends and
family.

4. Telephone (Alexander Graham Bell )

The need that was addressed by this invention is being connected to someone despite
your physical distance. The telephone gave people the chance to talk to someone more
convenient and faster than sending letter that the receiver may receive days or weeks after it was
sent. The telephone made an incredible impact on society. The impact could be seen through the
quickness of communication, business, easier communication in wars, and some negative effects
too. Although the telephone became a necessity of daily life, it was at first neglected by the
public.

5. The Compass (Chinese)

The need that was addressed by this invention is for the people to know their location
especially the ones who navigate ships or airplanes. Sailors had to keep the shore in sight so they
could see landmarks, or they risked getting lost. Compasses made it possible for explorers to sail
far out into oceans and away from land—no matter what the weather was like. This led to more
exploration, the discovery of new countries, and trade with other cultures.

6. The Light Bulb (Thomas Edison)

The need that was addressed by this invention was being lighten up when it’s dark. Since
light bulb has invented, people can finally see clearly at night or in dark places. Its impact to the
society is that the electric light bulb has been called the most important invention since man-
made fire. The light bulb helped to establish social order after sundown, extended the workday
well into the night, and allowed us to navigate and travel safely in the dark. Without the light
bulb, there would be no nightlife.

7. Penicillin (Alexander Fleming)

It's one of the most famous discovery stories in history. This discovery helped people in
fighting huge number of bacterial infections in humans without harming the humans themselves
and bacterial infection solutions are the need that was addressed by this invention.
The impact of penicillin after its discovery was immediately relevant. Its use in the treatment of
wounded soldiers in the Second World War decreased the risk of gangrene of the wound. This
allowed time for surgical intervention, thus saving many lives and avoiding limb amputations
during the war.

8. Medical Incubator (Fe del Mundo)

The need that was addressed by this invention was to regulate new born babies in rural
areas with no electricity. This medical incubator had a great impact in the Philippines and in the
whole world because experts demonstrated the success of caring for premature infants using
incubators.

9. Erythromycin (doctor/scientist Abelardo Aguilar)

Erythromycin, is a macrolide antibiotic that was sold as an alternative to penicillin. Thus,
this discovery was a great help for humans who need to be protected from bacteria just like what
penicillin is used for. The impact of Erythromycin to the society is that it helped the human’s
body to ward off diseases caused by bacteria. When used appropriately, they quickly and
effectively eliminate infections, causing us to feel better in a matter of days.

10. The 3-n-1 Fire Truck (Alfredo M. Anos, Sr.)

The need that was addressed by this invention is having a fire truck that is used to carry
fire fighters to the incident more easily. The truck has also huge amount of water to stop the fire
from spreading. But to make this truck exceptional, this truck serves as fire truck, a rescue
vehicle and an ambulance; hence the 3-n-1term. It does not only carry water to stop the fire, it
can also carry patients to hospitals which has a big impact to the society.
