Wisma the Redeemer is a study community for the Redemptorist Brothers. A home
where all love is poured out to God and neighbor. The womb that gave birth to the heralds of the
Redeemer.
Prayer and the Eucharist are the first and foremost activities, before starting all the daily
activities of each day. We approach the Lord with hymns of gratitude and draw strength from the
Eucharist to start a new day.
Every day, bicycles always accompany us on our study journey at the Faculty of
Theology Wedabhakti, Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta. In this faculty, we specialize in
philosophy and theology. However, during the pandemic, lecture activities are carried out online.
Not only study, but we also cultivate ourselves in manual work (opera) at Wisma Sang
Penebus. This manual labor (opera) is also part of caring for the vocation. After hand labor, we
exercise for the sake of health.
As Redemptorists, we have three holy places. First: the chapel; second: Dining Room;
and third: Recreation Room.
One of our holy places, besides the chapel, is the dining room. This is where all the
stories, experiences, joys, and sorrows are poured out in togetherness. This togetherness is one of
the life forces of the community.
The residents of the home of the redeemer again give thanks for the day that has passed
and while asking for blessings for the night's rest through the closing night prayer
(completorium).
After that, we immersed ourselves in personal study to deepen the knowledge and
knowledge that had been received. Quiet and calm.
Our next shrine is the recreation room. After struggling with studies, we held recreation
as entertainment and a means to foster love, togetherness, solidarity. In this place, all tension,
fatigue, and busy study are released in the joy of togetherness.
In addition, we have evaluation and recollection activities every month. The goal is to
look at ourselves again and develop what is good and correct what is bad.
During the study period, we had the opportunity to do personal pastoral activities, such as
ward catechesis, mentoring of our congregation and OMK, bringing recollections, leading
worship services, assisting and conducting Pastoral Orientation Periods in the parish or
institution where we were sent.
Here in this house, we seek and find true love who has loved us sincerely.
Theological Narrative:
The period of coaching at the Higher Seminary – Wisma Sang Penebus helped us to get
to know the person as a whole, all his weaknesses, and virtues, and develop healthily in self-
acceptance and his life history. During this educational period, we continue to refine the
motivation of our vocation as Redemptorists and can make well-considered decisions.
Vision:
4. Become a proclaimer of Christ the Redeemer who is open, plural, democratic, and loves the
environment (ecological).
5. Able to think critically and constructively, feel solidarity with the people, while sharing with
them their hopes and worries
To achieve the vision and mission above, the theological model built in our community is
Contextual Theology. This is in line with the faculty theology model. Contextual theology means
that we start theology from below (real and concrete situations), then see it in the light of
Christian teachings. This theological concept is carried out with the basic value offered by
Veritatis Gaudium, namely joy (joy). Contextual theology contributed greatly to us before going
down to the mission field.
Social ProjectThe social project is the program of the Wisma Sang Penebus Community to
go, live and experience firsthand the lives of the poor, sick, disabled, and oppressed. The
Brothers held a live-in by becoming factory workers, scavengers, street vendors, buskers, and so
on. The Brothers learn to feel compassion for them, learn to serve and in the end can understand
what suffering, struggle, and perseverance mean to accept life's difficulties.
1. Social Service
2. Dialogue of Religions
Live In the dialogue of religions is a means for us to be able to dialogue and get to know
other diverse religions. We went and lived with people of other religions, for example, Islam,
Hinduism, Protestantism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. It is hoped that with this activity, we
will be able to have a dialogue, be open, inclusive, have a spirit of plurality, and respect those
who are different. The basis of interfaith dialogue is the Church's appreciation and belief that
God also works through these religions, the Church believes that people who do not know Christ
can be saved.
3. Hope Theology
Theology of Hope is a faculty program so that we can share experiences with those who
are critical and have a life on the threshold. For this reason, we were sent to the hospital. Be
friends, talk to them, pray for them, and so on. Here, too, we focus not only on the Catholic
patient but on a wide variety of patients. In essence, we give hope to them in critical times.
4. Social Theology
Social theology is a faculty program whose purpose and activity are the same as a social
project to go, live and experience firsthand the lives of the poor, sick, disabled, and oppressed.
5. Other Programs
During this pandemic, several live-in activities such as social service, theology of hope,
and so on are carried out virtually with interviews, catechesis, and making videos. In addition,
we would like to share the contextual theology that was carried out during the covid-19
pandemic. First: we started pastoral through online media. We have a YT channel that contains
devotionals, catechesis, children's faith-building, talk shows with young people, and much more.
It is hoped that through this medium, our ministry and pastoral will continue to live and thrive.
One thing we always do every week is Novena Maria Mother Always Helping.
Second: we held a solidarity action to share the love with our brothers and sisters who
were hit by a natural disaster in NTT, namely the seroja storm. Together with Redemptorist
friends, we try to extend love and lighten the burden of our brothers and sisters who suffer there.
Suffering is the most painful and depressing experience. Such experiences force us to give up,
remain silent and surrender to circumstances because of our limitations as humans.
Third: three times the Wisma Sang Penebus community held online webinars with
interesting themes. These include Vocations, Spirituality, and the Work of Indonesian
Redemptorists with P. Tony, CSsR; Theology of the Creation of Man (a new perspective) with
Fr. Provincial; and Manna in Bumi Marapu (Commemorating the 132 Years of the Catholic
Church in Sumba) with Mgr. Edmund Woga, CSsR and P. Mateus Mali, CSsR.
More or less that is a picture of theology that is present and alive in our community.
Every activity carried out will be reflected in-depth in the theological frame. We realized that
what we were doing was not a big thing. However, we believe that this activity can help the
process of developing contextual theology as well as building local churches that live in the
archipelago and Asia.
The message of joy (joy) offered by Veritatis Gaudium has always colored us to form
ourselves as an academic community full of joy and joy born because we are involved in the
Truth; connect more deeply, through clarity and enlightenment of mind and spiritual depth with
the Foundation and Origin of our life. Our community is the vehicle where this joy is nurtured
and transmitted every day in togetherness. Hail the Redeemer.
