Busting Myths about Faith and Intelligence

I. Critical thinking is an absolute necessity for an intelligent person to find heaven.

Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the
word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things
were so.

Isa_1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as
scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as
wool.

1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

II. The more intelligent a person is the more likely they are to miss heaven.

1Co_8:1 Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge.
Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.

1Co_3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He
taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

III. Bible faith is not an abscence of evidence.

Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen,
being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so
that they are without excuse:

Psa_19:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory
of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

IV. It does not take a lot of intelligence to understand the basics revealed in scripture.

2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to
make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Psa 71:17 O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy
wondrous works.

1Co 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing
the understanding of the prudent.

1Co 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world?
hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1Co 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
1Co 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
1Co 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the
Greeks foolishness;
1Co 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of
God, and the wisdom of God.
1Co 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is
stronger than men.
1Co 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh,
not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
1Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and
God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are
mighty;

V. Intelligencce can never understand all that God has revealed in scripture.

1Co_2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we
have the mind of Christ.

Rom_11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how
unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

VI. Intelligence can never know what God's will is for man without his telling us.

Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith
the LORD.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your
ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Pro 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the
ways of death.

Jer 10:23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that
walketh to direct his steps.
