The Current Status of Education and the CoVid-19 Pandemic
Abstract
The advent of CoVid-19 pandemic reveals the contrasting conditions
between those who have access to online education and those who barely have it. This pandemic has drawn people to home-based activities as social distancing protocols are intensifying. This scenario has caused the Department of Education (DepEd) to realign its policies with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Health (DOH) to prepare for the new normal. Inevitably, the DepEd’s preparation for the new normal has led to a decision to pursue the opening of classes using certain methods such as online, modular, and blended. However, the methods being implemented do not seem to apply to all students from different walks of life. Some of them do not even have any internet connection. Others simply can’t afford to buy their own gadgets. Moreover, the Department of Education doesn’t seem capable of providing printed materials for those who wish to resort to modular method. As a result, many students from far flung areas have chosen to stop their schooling despite their eagerness to pursue it. Nevertheless, those with complete access to online education do not find the system problematic.
