Read Mark’s diary and answer true or false. (10 points)

Last night I couldn’t sleep. I watched television until 3 in the morning and then went
to bed.
Suddenly I heard a terrible noise in the kitchen. But when I went there I saw nothing.
Maybe it was a dream, I thought, and I went back to bed. This time I heard someone
singing in the kitchen. Again, I got up and slowly walked downstairs, but again there
was nothing. Strange, I thought. And I went back to bed.
About an hour later, a scream woke me up. Now I was scared. I listened carefully.
The scream came from the kitchen. I did not move. Next, I could hear singing and
screaming at the same time. Could it be a ghost?
In the end I decided to go and check. I walked very slowly and carefully. The kitchen
was empty. But I could still hear voices.
I walked to the living room and I saw a light there. The voices got louder. But I
needed to check. So I went into the living room and… what did I find out?
The TV was still on. There was a Dracula film on, but it was only a film; no Dracula
and no ghosts in my house!
I turned it off and went back to bed.

D. Reading

Here is a letter from Maria Corsini to Tom Collins. Read it and decide
if the sentences are true or false. (10 points)

Dear Tom,
How are you? Are you back in America or are you still travelling in Europe?
I am on Capri now, spending a few days here with my parents.
The weather here is lovely, but it gets very windy in the afternoon. My friend
Gabriella is also here with me so we spend a lot of time together. In the morning we
go swimming with my parents and in the evening we leave them at the hotel and we
go dancing. There are a lot of discos here and they’re all fantastic! We sometimes go
to the cinema, too. It’s an open air cinema with lots of trees and it’s very cool.
Yesterday Gabriella and I visited the mainland. We went to Naples and took a
lot of photographs - I’m going to send you one if they come out OK.
I miss you and the Games a lot. I had a great time in London and I enjoyed
meeting people my age from all over the world. Luckily, the Games are in Rome next
year, so I hope to see you all again there. Until then, I’m going to train very hard
because I want to be the best when all the people from my country are watching me!
Please write soon,
Yours,
Maria
