STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

Surface Grinding Machine

Safety glasses must be worn at all times. Masks must be worn when using this machine.

Appropriate safety shoes must be worn. Gloves must not be worn when using this machine.

PRE-OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS

1. Ensure no slip/trip hazards are present in workspace and walkways.
2. Locate and ensure you are familiar with the operation of the ON/OFF
isolator and main switch and E-stop.
3. Ensure safety guard is always between the operator and the wheel.
4. Check coolant delivery system to allow for sufficient flow of coolant.
5. Faulty equipment must be used. Immediately report suspect machinery.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS

1. Inspect the work surfaces. Make sure they are clean and free of any
sharp projections or ragged edges.
2. Before applying a cut, make sure the wheel clears the length of the job
at each end.
3. Keep your hands away from the running wheel and moving work piece.
4. Do not run your finger across the work surface or wipe away swart while
the machine is in motion.
5. Listen to the sound of the wheel cutting and learn to recognise when the
wheel is cutting efficiently.

HOUSEKEEPING
1. Switch off the machine.
2. Leave the machine and work area in safe, clean and tidy state.
