Handout 3: Catalase Enzyme

The activation energy for the uncatalyzed degradation of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen is 18
kcal/mole at 20oC. What is the increase in the rate of peroxide degradation using: (i) colloidal platinum
as the catalyst where the activation energy is brought down to 13 kcal/mol and (ii) the enzyme catalase
where the activation energy is 7 kcal/mol?
