According to 30 reports of 11 respondents in NFHS-IV, 16% of
women in Assam have experienced violence since the age of
15 and 14% have been beaten or physically mistreated by their
husband
During the survey conducted in Upper Assam and lower
Assam, the UPS (International Institute of Population Science)
has found that two out of three women justify beating of wives
by their husbands which show the culture of widespread social
acceptance of domestic violence
