1) What is the first thing Mary Walgrave says to Jamie and why?

She says ‘Laurence’ because she thinks Jamie is her son.

2) Why does Jamie want to leave Mary Walgrave’s house ‘as soon as possible’?
He wants to leave because he feels uncomfortable when she invites him into
her house, specifically in a dark child’s bedroom and she asks him to come back
later.
3) How does Jamie find out who Laurence was?
He finds out who is Laurence when Ted let him know about him.
4) What is different about Laurance’s bedroom at the end of the story?
It is not dark anymore because the curtains are open. There is only one
window, not two. There is no window between the curtains over the bed. There
is only a wall with five photographs of the same place with 5 different boys in
each photo.
5) Mary Walgrave is sleeping in her garden. Jamie leaves her with a photograph of
himself as a little boy. Why does he do that?
He does it because Mary Walgrave loves the sea and she wanted to take her
son there one summer’s day forty years. Maybe this photo might help her to
remember the times she did take Laurence to the sea.
