It is better to have food made to order because of the shelf-life. The shelf-life
of a product refers to how long it is suitable for consumption. The product will
remain safe and have the desired sensory, chemical, physical, and microbiological
qualities during its shelf life. Understanding shelf life is critical for ensuring
product safety and quality.
Capacity issues prevent making all needs met in a short-selling season. Scheduling,
labor shifts, and resource capacity balance are all aspects of capacity planning.
The purpose of short-term capacity planning is to deal with unanticipated demand
shifts efficiently and cost-effectively. The production process, costs, and time-
wise can be lowered if the product is made to order.
Undifferentiated/Commodity product
Undifferentiated products are products intrinsically identical such as milk,
gasoline, and packed ice, and could be replaceable by items from competitors or
other suppliers. These products can compete
only based on cost and availability. If the product is not MTO, it may cause
cancellation of orders if the production takes a lot of time.
