The narrator of this story is a teenager who doesn't know much about her Grandmother; all
she knows about her is that in her younger days, she was in a band, and that she loved to
drive her Chevy Impala. One night, the narrator overhears her parents discussing whether
her grandmother should be allowed to drive. They worry that she is getting too old. This
worries the narrator, since she knows that driving is one of the things that brings her
grandmother the most joy.

The narrator was grounded quite often, which she normally didn't mind. One night, however,
was an exception: she had been grounded on the night of a party she desperately wanted to
go to. Since her parents weren't home, she asked her grandmother to drive her to the party.

The narrator notices that her grandmother seemed a bit uncomfortable about driving, and
halfway to the destination, she pulled over. The narrator is unable to tell whether her
grandmother knows that she is grounded, or if she is simply uncomfortable with driving at
night. In the end, the narrator does not ask, but is relieved when her grandmother turns the
car around to drive the two of them back home.
