My main motivations in teaching are to institute change and make a positive difference in

the lives of today’s youth. My inspiration comes from family and former teachers who have

continually encouraged and supported me by reminding me to never give up no matter what. I

aspire to create a media center environment in which my students feel the same encouragement

and support from me that I’ve felt along my journey. Technology is a crucial component of the

current curriculum and real world so I want to engage students in safe technology practices and

aid them in learning how to use technology to complete assignments and learn knowledge and

facts on subject matter that interests them. I believe that as a media specialist, my main role is to

teach the students lifelong skills that can be applied and transferred to school and life as well as

to begin building the foundation of critical thinking skills in a nurturing and welcoming

environment. It is essential that I create a safe and positive learning space so my students can be

comfortable in engaging with me and their peers as well as asking questions that promote

learning and growth among the students. Even more so, students will be able to be exposed to

different genres of literature, learn about historical figures and events through books and video,

and learn basic computer skills that can aid them in future research and school assignments.

Another role is to collaborate and provide the teachers and staff at my school with resources that

will help students master their learning goals. In order for students to accomplish these goals, I

will have to assist teachers with their lessons, meeting with them during their planning time, and

being available when they have questions. As a media specialist, I hope to establish relationships

with the students and faculty in my school and help and support them as best as possible in order

for them to be successful in their education.
