separate sheet/file.

1. How did Beowulf cleanse Heorot of its monsters?

 For 12 years the creature terrorizes Heorot with nightly visits in which he
carries off Hrothgar's warriors and devours them. After learning of the Danes'
trouble, young Beowulf, a prince of the Geats in what is now southern
Sweden, arrives with a small band of retainers and offers to rid Heorot of its
monster.

2. What rewards were given to Beowulf for his heroic deeds?

 Higlac rewards Beowulf for his bravery with parcels of land, swords and houses. In
the second part of the poem, set many years later, Higlac is dead, and Beowulf has
been king of the Geats for some fifty years.
 Out of loyalty to his king, Beowulf hands over most of the treasures he received
from Hrothgar as a reward for his amazing feats of strength.

3. Beowulf was able to kill the fire dragon, but he was mortally wounded. How does this define
heroic death?
 Beowulf death was caused by a poisonous wound from the dragon. But he really
died because his past and his pride blinded him to the reality that he was an aging
king who could no longer perform the same feats of strength and bravery, making
him a tragic hero.
