Roman Fever by Edith Wharton

(A Reflection on “Roman Fever”)

* Has any place affected you as Rome did the lives of Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley? Describe the
place and your emotional responses to it.*

 Yes, there’s a certain place that affected me most, and this place is my Grandmother’s

house for the reason of every time I saw my Lola’s house it brings a lots of memories to

me, especially when I was a little, every corner of that house brings a lot of happiness to

me. The laughter with my cousins. It reminized all the single details of joy we have there.

Just like in the story of ''Roman Fever'' that happens in 1920s in Rome where two middle-

aged widows have brought their daughters for a holiday. Alida Slade has been envious of

Grace Ansley their whole lives, even 25 years ago when they were in Rome last. And

then, Alida was convinced that Grace was after her fiance, so she falsified a letter from

him to get Grace to think he wanted to meet her for a secret rendezvous at the Coliseum.

Alida hoped she would fall ill spending all night waiting in the cold for a man who would

never arrive. She assumed the plan succeeded, now, over two decades later, Alida

confesses her jealousy to Grace who then tosses back a revelation of her own. That she

had written him back, they indeed met, and Grace got a daughter out of it. This is base on

the summary of Forever Fever, In short ever place can bring memories when it is special.
