San Andreas Movie Analysis

1.) Who were the main characters of the movie?

- The main characters of the movie are Ray Gaines, Emma Gaines, Blake Gaines, Ben Taylor
and Ollie Taylor who fought their way to find each other and survive the tragedy.

2.) What are the roles of each character in the movie?

- Ray Gaines is a helicopter rescue pilot who is estranged to his wife, Emma Gaines. Their
youngest daughter died in a rafting accident that resulted their marriage to fall apart. Blake
Gaines, their other daughter is a college student that played a major role in the movie. Ben
Taylor plays Blake Gaines’ love interest and her saviour, while Ollie Taylor is Ben’s younger
brother.

3.) What is the plot of the movie?

- Its plot centers on an earthquake caused by the San Andreas Fault devastating Los Angeles
and the San Francisco Bay Area. It is a disaster movie about a family trying to survive when
the 810-mile San Andreas fault running through the spine of California gives way and causes
massive death and destruction.

4.) What is the connection of the movie to our lesson?

- Our lesson is about the interiors of the earth which talked about tectonic plates and their types
of boundaries, one of them is transform fault boundary. An example of a transform fault
boundary is the San Andreas fault that is 1,200-kilometer long which is a part of the
boundary between the Pacific and North American plates that are sliding past each other. This
caused earthquakes to happen often in places near the fault zone.

5.) If you are to end the movie your way what will it be?
- One of the characters stated that they’ll rebuild and start anew after they survived the
earthquake and tsunami, they should rebuild their city, yes but not there near the fault line
after a big earthquake hit them. I would end the movie with the areas near San Andreas fault
prohibited and let the citizens move to a new place where the area isn’t prone to earthquakes
and tsunamis.
