Article Summary:

The headline is all about the farmers asking the rational government to provide
them subsidies to cover the cost that they spend on the urea fertilizer. Sotelo (2021)
said, it all started when the national government imports tons of imported rice to cover
up the “shortage of rice” last year, even if the true side of it was, there is still enough
rations of local rice in the Philippines, the reason of importing rice were relatively way
cheaper than the local rice.

One of the farmers also said, that the sudden decrease of demand of local rice,
they cannot get enough sales to buy fertilizers and seedlings. He also added, that the
remaining funds of the rice tarrification law, with the increased price of fertilizer, the
production cost of palay also increases, but, traders are buying palay lower than
allocated price of palay.

Reaction:

As I read the article, A big disappointment to the national government where

farmers are being ignored to their calling of aid and lack of financial support that may
help in producing more rice. It must be taken seriously because the agricultural industry
of the Philippines slowly dying that may lead the industry to lost forever. Government
must make laws and strictly implement them to support agricultural industry to be alive
again.
