Will Newspapers Survive?

Newspapers across the world are closing down. There are many reasons for this, but the
biggest reason is the digital revolution. Since the digital revolution, most people have access
to technology, including computers and the Internet. Many readers now read the news online
for free. In addition, many young people prefer digital media. So what will the future be for
newspapers? Of course, newspapers are trying to be part of the future. All major newspapers
will offer digital media very soon. For example, major newspapers such as The New York
Times, El Universal in Mexico and the Times of India already have online papers. Newspapers
are also finding ways to cut costs and make more profit.
Rupert Murdoch owns one of the biggest media companies in the world. In 2009, he said,
''People are reading news for free on the Web - that has to change.'' Today you have to pay
subscriptions for many newspapers online. Some newspapers, like The New York Times, offer
a certain number of articles for free, while subscribers get additional access to blogs, articles
and newspaper archives. Some smaller newspapers are thinking about going online only,
helping them to cut costs. The Ecologist has already done this, and others will follow. In the
near future, paper newspapers will probably only exist in museums.
