Introduction

The presentation I will be doing today entails the job opportunities that are available for

the social workers. Social workers can involve in different areas of specialization, depending on

one’s choice. These areas entail the Medical and Health Social Workers, Mental Health and

Substance Abuse Social Worker, and the Military and Veterans Social Worker. There is also the

Psychiatric Social Worker, Community Social Worker, and Hospice and Palliative Care Social

Worker. The last area of specialization is the Child, Family, and School Social Worker.

Medical and Health Social Worker

The first area of specialization I will discuss is the Medical and Health Social Worker.

These workers counsel patients during diagnosis and throughout treatment. They also provide

psychological and social support to patients with chronic illnesses. To add on, they give the

patients knowledge and counseling. Finally, they counsel families, friends, and caregivers of

patients. The medical and health social workers can get employed in hospitals, clinics, and in

general health facilities. One needs to have at least a diploma or a degree to get hired.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Worker

The next category is the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Worker. These social

workers perform functions such as assisting individuals struggling with addiction, mental health

problems, and difficulties. Another crucial role they play is to assist clients in building and

rebuilding family relationships. Mental health and substance abuse social workers can seek

employment in mental health facilities, rehabilitation centers, and hospitals. A diploma or degree

is necessary.

Military and Veteran Social Worker

Next, we encounter the military and veteran social worker. Military social workers assist

soldiers dealing with post-traumatic stress. They have to counsel family members of soldiers.

The military employs these aforementioned social workers. Similarly, a degree or diploma is

crucial in this field. 

Psychiatric Social Workers

They work with individuals with behavioral problems. Work with children with a

learning problem. They can work in hospitals, schools, intensive care wards, and outpatient

clinics.

Community Social Workers

They give hope and inspire members of the community. They also initiate and encourage

friendships in society. 

Hospice and Palliative Care Social Worker

They assist individuals who are terminally ill. Furthermore, they provide relief from pain

and counsel family members. They work in hospitals or private institutions.

Child, Family, and Social Worker

After the military social workers are the child, family, and school social worker. The

responsibility for this type of social worker is to provide case management services to children,

families, and schools. They work in private institutions, schools, and hospitals. The child, family,

and social workers need to have a diploma or a degree in their area of specialization. 

Overview

The audience for my presentation was new majors in the field of social work. They were

freshmen students from various universities in the United States of America. The purpose of the

presentation was to enlighten them about the different job opportunities available for social

workers in the country. It was also to inform them about the various places they can seek

employment as social workers. The presentation showcases the multiple areas of specialization

of the social work field and career. The presentation entailed the use of PowerPoint slides.

Pictures of social work got used in the presentation to enhance the audience’s understanding. It

encompassed simple bulleted points to summaries the areas of specialization.
