The Criminal Is Still At Large

Thirty-eight years have already passed, and yet the conspiracies surrounding Ninoy
Aquino’s assassination remain as fresh as it was back in the day he died. For even
now, the truth still seems to cower from the eyes of the public.

With the undeniable brilliance of the Marcos Clan in painting history according to
their favour, it's no wonder that many Filipinos would quickly reject the accusation of
Aquino’s death at the hands of either Ferdinand or his wife, Imelda. Even if Aquino
stood as the staunchest opposition leader against the dictator’s regime, their
masterful craft of censorship shines through as people would rather believe that
Danding Cojuangco ordered the assassination of his cousin’s husband.

According to this narrative, it was a ploy to put his cousin, Cory Aquino, into power
for the benefit of his thriving business. However, they fail to remember that
Cojuangco was actually one of the cronies of Marcos and also took advantage of
their master’s misappropriation of public funds. Therefore, in this perspective, it’s
easy to see that it points back to the Marcos family.

All the other personas Lourd De Veyra mentioned in his show who were thought to
be the mastermind behind Aquino’s death, some were even convicted and
imprisoned, show close ties with the dictator and wouldn’t act on their own, unless a
higher figure directed them. Marcos loyalists would stress that Ferdinand Marcos
wouldn’t be the one to order such sloppy murder as it wasn’t his “style” and the
dictator was too smart to conduct it.

Indeed, the former president is so intelligent that even though he’s been dead
already for so many years, people still deny that the horrors during the Martial Law
actually occurred. They strongly believe his narrative of dismissing the accusations
against him. With his family’s intricate web of lies, Filipinos are so quick to pin the
blame on personalities who were just puppets under his strings.

Was it not already obvious when the dictator called the Sandigan judges for a
closed-door meeting and demanded them to drop the charges against his right hand,
Fabiano Ver? That was a clear breaking of law but most Filipinos would turn a blind
eye on it in favour of their strong fanaticism for the Marcoses.

With the steady return of the Marcos heirs in power after decades of careful
planning, it would still be long before we unearth the mystery behind Aquino’s death.
Even if it is actually Ferdinand Marcos or Imelda, I believe that the truth would only
come out when the matriarch finally draws her last breath or if the convictions
against them finally conquered their ambitious and nefarious reign – when nothing
can save them anymore from the punishment of their sins.
