WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT 1st Quarter Report < Bt, July/August/Sept. 2021 y Presented by: Chief David Squires Wrightsville Beach Police Department Quarterly Report Executive Summary FY 2021-2022 Q1 (July-September) Crime Report As 2 combined total, Group A&B offenses were 22% down from the previous quarter while they were 18% up from the same quarter last year. When looking at previous (pre pandemic years) our total Group A&B offenses is still significantly down. The last four quarters show 1,003 combined offenses while 2019 had 1435. We saw a decrease in destruction/vandalism offenses (more than 50% when compared to the previous quarter and also the same quarter last year). We do note an increase in aggravated assaults (7 compared to 4 in the previous quarter). While this is concerning, we are happy with our latent investigations, charging offenders in the majority of these cases (5 out of 7) and working to develop a more proactive posture with respect to assaults in the bar district. With respect to ordinance enforcement, itis of interest to note that we saw an 18% increase in total ordinance enforcement from the last quarter (8% decrease from same quarter last year). Glass container violations were up dramatically (almost double the previous quarter). This is likely related to the addition of a new ranger. Dog on the beach, noise, and open container enforcement all appear to be in normal ranges. Community Concerns During this quarter, we were invited to meet with residents of Channel Walk/Lee’s Cut to discuss their concerns (noise, litter, drunkenness associated with boaters around Palm Tree Island). We dedicated some intermittent foot patrols in the area and worked with the NHC SO to ensure an increase presence on the waters. The July 4" weekend went smoothly in this area. We also worked closely with the NHC SO to prepare for the potential of protest associated with a social media controversy related to the investigation of an assault that occurred on the beach strand. The increased patrol presence was noted and appreciated by residents. Progress Report. We have noted some positive change with respect to citizens contacting the dispatcher when they need police services. We have also noted some progress with citizens locking their doors even when they are home. We are happy to report that we will again be fully staffed in the coming weeks. ua WBPD National Incident Based Reporting System Report (NIBRS) Jane | Jane | Jone ec | Dec | vec GROUP AOFFENSES [2017] zone | 2018 [100 fecnapnine/absuction r[afe 120 frosbery afale 200 fason 2 210 [enarion/atcnai 1 220 [ourlry/oreatng & rterng 2s | 30 | a7 240 [Motor venice tet aa ce 250 [coumterttng/rorgey afaye 270 [embectement sfala 280 [scien Propenyofenses 7Ia]2 200 [oesructon/Damaye/vanclim of property ss | a3 | 59) 370 |romosrapiy/obscene wei 510 [onveny 520 [weapon tw voatons wfwlasfef2[2[2[: [7] 2 720 fans Guety OEE TP2z[p2[ 2000 [NEGUGENT TRAFIC DEATH, HON CRIMINAL DETANNENT INVOLUNTARY 09A [promi OFfense (Murder and Hon-Nehigent Manstauphter | 098 [Homicide Oense (Neplgent Mansushte) 09 useable Homiede 124 [oer orenses (ape) s[«[s[2 i 1a 218 [becomense sodomy 2 2 rfal2 21¢ [bexomense wah ose 110 [ser rfense Fond a onl 1[:[2 134 [assut offenses (garovatedassout) w}aofasfe ls [2[«[7 | 138 [biota ast s7 | «3 | 57 | 20 2 folelal a 13¢ [psu Ofenss(ntmaton s{afolfe{:[2[s[elel 2 23A [larceny Poca Pena) 2 afi | 236 [larceny (purse Sratching) 23¢ [larceny shopitng 720 [larceny reftrom Bung) slalal2|: Ci 23t [larceny tHe tom a Con Operated Machin) af: 23F |larceny/Tet orenses Tet rom Motor veil) wlafasfas|«[2[2[s]al s 236 [larceny (Theft of otr Vehicle ars ifa 1 23H [larcenyTReh Offenses (oer een) |e | ris] 7 [se lu| a] 2 25h [rv otenss Fale Pretene/Swinde/Confience Game) was fas fas 2 [3 [s [6 | [is 268 [rau Omens Creat crs aus) 6 s|s|2 z2[3[7] = 266 [fraud otenses impersonation) a[aia{e[-]. i[3 260 [rua Ofenses(Wetare Frau) 25e_[ravs oenses wie Fraud) 2 z]2[> 2 26F [raw OMemesdenty Teh ata i[afa 266 [Fraus oFenses Hacking Computer ivaston) WEPD National incident Based Reporting System Report (niBRS) paar] Jan Jane | Ape [uh | tase Dec mar | une | Sept | four Jul-Sep ‘GROUP A OFFENSES: 2017; 2021) 2021 | 2023 [rota] 2020 358 Jorug/narcoi offenses Oxup/Naccotie Viotations) a7 1a [22 [aa | so 358 [orug/Narcoic Ofenses (rug Equipment Violations) 3 s[slo|al « 236 [sex offenses (won-Forible ees 368 [sex ottense (stattory Rape) 394 [sambing oftenses (Betting) 398 [amoung otenses(Oparating/Pomating/Assiting Gambing 39C [combing oftenses Equipment) 4 380 [camating ofenses (Snors Tamper) 408 [rrosttuion (Engaging In Postittion) 5 408 [prostitution Promoting or Assisting in Postiuton) 40¢ [prostiuton Purchasing) 4 [human atc Commerc soca | 648 |uman Taffikng (involuntary Servtude) | Tenour sorrenses 908 [aaa checks 1 ToravenoupAcorrenses| 541 | 462 | 6i2 | 203]) 29 | oa | 120 | 103 | e000 908 [curtew/toitering/Vagrancy Violations 90€ [oisordery Conduct 9 [ae fa rfete[ofa 800 [oriving Under the fivence (OW 463 | 141 | a79 | 94 || 21 [19 [39 [38 [a7 90 [orunkenness a7} alesis]: [2 [ols [ols 0F [Famiy offenses Nonviolent 3fata 906 [uguoe Lave votations 26 | as faefa fs [i [> [i [2 90 [poeping Tom 901 [Trespass of teal roperty x7 | a6 | me | if2[e[e]e 902 [au other offenses 394 | 207 | 489 | 239 se | 60 | 229 | 91 | 23] 76 | 7 | TOTALGROUP B OFFENSES] 650 | 655 | 423 | 406] 79 | e | 192 | 142 | 622 || 107 ‘TOTAL GROUP A& 8 OFFENSES] 191] 1217]]1435]] 709 | 168 J 128 J 516 ] 245 [200a]| 202 19 TOWB General Ordinance Violations ous Year Tar [TRAFFIC CODE: CHAPTER 75 74.02 fovstructng passage of other vehicles [restricted Zone. lovertime parking faoat too close to beachv/Anchoring of Vessels w/out Zoning re Lane [aNIMALS: CHAPTER OX 91.11.
