Abstract
The content of the course is the basic theory of partial differential equations. First, we
introduce the notion of PDEs, we give their classification and then we provide examples
of their usage together with four typical representatives from the mathematical physics:
the transport equation, the Laplace equation, the heat equation and the wave equation.
The subsequent part of the course is devoted to further analysis of the above-mentioned
equations. We present methods allowing to solve the equations such as the method of char-
acteristics, the Green functions, the Fourier method (separated solutions) etc. Further, we
examine qualitative properties of solutions like uniqueness, smoothness, we give maximum
principles for certain PDEs and so on.
