I was quite disappointed of the end, for I hoped the character will be able to make it to

the camp, this story, seemed at first to be boring, but the more I read the more I got
involved and curious to know what is going to happen next. Also, it shows how
important it is to foreigners to take in count the advices given to them by the natives.
The story is a warning to heed the advice of those around you and to not
underestimate the dangers of the great North.

I enjoyed this short story. I loved how descriptive the story is. When he describes pain, you feel
pain. By those descriptions he could draw vivid pictures within my mind. What I also love is that
London does not fall into the trap of many authors by trying to make a "happily ever after"
ending. Consequences of either intentional or unintentional acts still happen.

A breathtaking and enchanting but sad short story, which shows man struggling in the face of the
gigantic and destructive forces of nature! The description was so vivid that I felt I could see the man
and the dog in front of me. The story showed a man watching the slow approach of the inevitable
death, in a very harsh context, where it becomes difficult to survive in such a weather of extreme cold
temperature. The dog is more adapted and knows how to survive better the man, who was new to the
Yukon trail.

I believe that the author choose this setting because it s symbolizes death, because nature
goes to rest when the snow starts falling, and there is almost no life.
In the title we have the word Fire and I belive that the fire symbolizes the mans desire To live, to
survive.
