Language Teaching: Then and Now

Recall how you were taught to learn a language as a child. Then, compare and contrast
it to how learners nowadays learn a language. Are there similarities and differences?
What factors do you think cause these?

- If I remember correctly, I was taught to learn a language as a child by hearing it

from my parents, the adults around me, and even other people that I’m with
almost every day. I learn a certain language because I’m exposed to that
language all the time, and as a child you will remember things that have been
said and put into action in front of you. Learners nowadays learn languages in a
similar way, but more accessible. They’ve got the means to learn a new
language that involves listening, speaking, reading, writing, sometimes even a
new alphabet and writing format. Of course, there are some similarities and
differences because we are living in different times and with that, modernization
has occurred and affects the way we learn new things. New technologies, our
surroundings, and the community in general change the way of learning. We
adapted to certain changes, which is one of the major reasons for these
differences.
