ROLE PLAY

Take turns being the waiter and customers. This way, you have one go at reading the dialogue and
another at using the target language without referring to the dialogue.   Students must write out the
complete dialogue after this conversation activity.

Get the students started by handing out a sample dialogue such as the following:

Waiter:  Good afternoon. Would you like a drink, sir/madam?

 Customer 1
 Customer 2
 Customer 3  Yes, please. I’d like ___.

Waiter:  Would you like any appetizers?

 Customer 1
 Customer 2
 Customer 3   Yes. I’d like ___, please.

Waiter:  What about an appetizer? What would you like?

 Customer 1
 Customer 2
 Customer 3 I’d like ___, please.

Waiter:  That’s a good choice. Would you like any dessert?

 Customer 1
 Customer 2
 Customer 3  Well, yes. I’d like ___, please.

Waiter:  So that’s… (waiter repeats the order)
