Astronomy Writing Prompt

Galileo Galilei was a famous astronomer. He supported Copernicus’ idea

that the Sun was at the center of our solar system, not the Earth. The
Roman Inquisition (led by the Roman Catholic church) investigated him
and said his ideas were foolish and contradicted the Bible. He was
sentenced to house arrest and spent the last 9 years of his life unable to
leave his home.

Write a letter to the Pope from Galileo’s point of view. What would you tell
him? (Would you stick to what you thought was true, or would you deny
your findings in order to escape the punishment?)
