MEMORANDUM

TO: MR. JOSH WORKMAN

FROM: NATANIA RILEY

SUBJECT: MEDIA CENTER EVALUATION

DATE: OCTOBER 15, 2021

CC: MRS. TONYA MCKINNIE

I had the opportunity to evaluate the operation of the media center using the GA DOE
2016 Library Media Program Evaluation Rubric. The media specialist, Mrs. McKinnie
had assisted me with evaluating the 10 performance standards and we were pleased to see
the media center scored well. Five of the standards scored at a Level III, and five scored
at a Level IV. Mrs. McKinnie put in a tremendously amount of time and effort to make
the media center a great place for students, staff, and stakeholders to come in and visit.
Attached is a copy of the school librarian evaluation with the highlighted areas where the
media center scored. Below you will find an action plan to improve those areas.

Sincerely,

Natania Riley
Action Plan:

Performance Standard 1: Instructional Partnership

The school library media specialist collaboratively plans instruction and develops the
library media program using state and district curricula and standards, instructional
calendars, effective strategies, resources, and data to support teachers and address the
differentiated needs of all students.

Recommendation: Media specialists can be a great addition to the classroom. Since the
media specialist has resources for teachers, we could allow the media specialist to
collaborate with the teacher(s) to plan a lesson. Teachers can work closely with the media
specialist to find effective resources to use in their lessons. Media specialists can meet
with a grade level once a week during their planning and visit a classroom once or twice
a week.

Performance Standard 3: Information and Technology Literacy

The school library media specialist plans and provides instruction that addresses multiple
literacies, including information literacy, media literacy, and technology literacy.

Recommendation: Media specialists can hold a professional development workshop at

the beginning of the year to provide instruction that addresses multiple literacies like
information literacy, media literacy, and technology literacy that support student and staff
learning. The media specialist can be available throughout the school year to answer
questions and assist teachers. For new teachers, they will receive training as well.

Performance Standard 5: Effective Practices for Research

The school library media specialist teaches and models developmentally appropriate best
practices for learning and research.

Recommendation: Media specialists can promote and model an inquiry-based approach

to learning and the research process. Media specialists can host meetings/webinars to
show to provide learning tasks that help learners collect information and data. Media
specialists can also collaborate with teachers to help them create both short and long-term
research topics and lessons that match with the curriculum.
