THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT SURGERY AND THE


ANXIETY LEVEL OF THE PRE- OPERATIVE STT PATIENTS IN THE KENANGA
ROOM OF MITRA SIAGA HOSPITAL TEGAL

Abstract

Surgery is a medical procedure that uses an invasive technique by opening or revealing the
part of the body to be treated through an incision and ends with closuring and suturing of the
wound. The surgical procedure often has far-reaching effects and psychological effects on
pre-operative patients that increase the patient’s anxiety. The study aimed to analyze the
relationship of the level of knowledge about surgery information with the level of the
patient’s anxiety in the Kenanga Room of Mitra Siaga Hospital, Tegal. It was a correlational
descriptive research while the design of this study was cross-sectional study method. This
study took place in the Kenanga Room of Mitra Siaga Hospital, Tegal. The study sample
consisted of 40 patients using accidental sampling technique. The data collection was
obtained from questionnaire. The result was analyzed using chi-square in the significant level
95%, showing that p value = 0,000 (p <0,05). It shows that there was relationship between
the knowledge about surgery information with the anxiety level of the pre-operative patients
in the Kenanga Room of Mitra Siaga, Tegal. The suggestion of the study is it is expected for
the nursing profession to provide information about surgery to provide an understanding for
the pre-operative patients so the level of the patients’ anxiety can be reduced.
