Investigating Reduction in Force Status

Beacon does not provide a RIF Register like PMIS. In order to determine if an applicant has
current RIF rights, please take the following steps:

1. If PD-107 indicates RIF as the reason for separation from last NC State Government
position, then determine if a copy of the RIF notice letter is attached. If the RIF notice is
not attached, contact the applicant and ask for the letter.

2. Confirm RIF as reason for separation in Beacon, if possible.

3. Contact the Human Resources Office of the agency where the RIF reportedly occurred to
determine validity. Effective date of RIF is necessary to determine if RIF Rights are still
active.

4. Notify assigned DENR HR Analyst of any applicant with active RIF Rights.

5. DENR HR Analyst notifies contact at OSP in order to confirm/register applicant with

active RIF Rights.

6. DENR Division HR Manager ensures that all applicants with active RIF Rights are
afforded all employment priorities outlined in the Reduction in Force Policy.
