Boiler Q A
Boiler Q A
What is foaming?
Foaming is due to the chemical composition of the water.
Pure water does not foam, and i n a b o i l e r t h e s t e a m

or suspended substances, the surface tension is altered
and the steam bubbles remain s m a l l . T h e r e f o r e

foaming mass, which can then foam into the steam
take-off.
What is priming?
Priming is the ejection of boiler water into the steam
take-off and in general, results from factors
associated with boiler operation.
What are the probable causes for priming?
There are several possible causes like operating the boiler
with too-high water level, operating below the design
pressure, d e m a n d i n g m o r e s t e a m t h a n t h e d e s i g n
value.
Why is the safety valve of super heater set at a lower
pressure than the SV of the boiler drum?
To protect the super heater coils from starvation by ensuing
adequate steam flow to the super heater.
