The festival of the marinera is celebrated every year in the month of January in the
city of Trujillo. The event focuses on the marinera contest, which is a typical dance
from the city of Trujillo.
Trujillo is the venue for the marinera contest and it is organized by the Club
Libertad de Trujillo, it takes place the last week of January where a large number of
dance couples from different parts of the country and from country other countries
too.
The contest is realized every year and it is disputed in different categories. The
contest summons thousands of tourists from different parts of the world. Also stand
out the marinera corso that runs through the main streets of the Historic Center of
Trujillo, having as the main stage the Plaza de Armas de Trujillo and the
presentation of paso horses in the city.
