Essay

Whenever the word poverty comes to my mind, I feel joyless. Poverty is the state in which a
community or a person lacks the financial resources and essentials for a minimum standard of
living. People who are living below a cost of 1.90 US Dollars are living below the poverty line.
Based on some research online, 9.2% of approximately 693 million of the overall world
population are living under the poverty line.

Speaking of poverty, I will think of the countries in Africa suffering from and also illness such as
Kwashiorkor, one of the most common diseases among children in poorer countries that is
caused by the lack of protein and nutrients that the human body needs. The main reason
poverty appears in poor countries is because of the incomplete and old infrastructure available.

Remembering the past, I went to a charity show when I was a kid, I saw pictures and articles
describing how inferior the environment they are living in from the brochures given by the
organiser. After seeing the show and listening to a talk about it, it gave me a huge impact. I was
shocked I was so lucky to be born in a family full of love. Besides that, school teachers used to
teach me about poverty in my country and also told us to take action to help save people who
are suffering.
Even though education is necessary for all students, but it doesn’t really help much. But on the
other hand, charities did a great job. Charities help people to escape poverty and also maintain
their lives above the poverty line by donating necessities and also give them education.
